BRAZIL
Belo Horizonte | Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais
Brazil
Brazil is known for its warm and highly relational people who are excited to build new friendships and have a lot of fun. One of Campus Outreach’s oldest existing international locations, the Belo Horizonte team is at Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (UFMG). Despite the continuous growth of the student base, there are still very few college ministries. Only 21% of Brazilians attend university, making the campus a unique and strategic place to reach the future leaders of this vibrant country.
Brazilian culture is highly relational, so life-on-life ministry on and through the campus is a great way to reach this young and energetic demographic. We hope to break through the spiritual barriers and initiate meaningful conversations about faith and spirituality with these students.
Although the Catholic population in Brazil is estimated at up to 65%, the campus is a challenging segment of society due to secularism, syncretism, and cultural resistance to the evangelical church. Ministry in Brazil is a slow process with lots of layers, and it can take a few years until a student is ready to surrender their life to Christ. Relationships are crucial in presenting the gospel with our words and lives.
Because this ministry work is so involved and sometimes drawn out, we desire Staff who are willing to be a part of it in a tangible way. We need Campus Staff and English teachers, all of whom will engage the different culture, language, and style of ministry with humility and open hearts.
